OURO PRETO

OURO PRETO

In August we traveled to Ouro Preto, it was amazing. To begin Ouro Preto is a city in Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto was called Vila Rica. We have learned a lot of things that we can use in our lives.

We have learned things for school about slaves, gold mines and etc
As far we are considered, Ouro Preto is a nice place to go with your friends duo to the fact that you can enter into the gold mines and see a lot of beautiful churches, in the odder hand, we learned a lot of things for life because in Ouro Preto we had to share our things with our bedroom partners and how to be independent!
We have to share one thing with you, we have a friend that tried to slide in the handrail, but this didn't work, she fell in the ground, but now she is ok hahaha...
To sum up Ouro Preto was a place to learn and to have fun. We hope there are other travels like this!

What have you learned from your frield trip to Ouro Preto?

What have you learned from your field trip to Ouro Preto?

From our trip to Ouro Preto, we’ve learned a lot of interesting facts about the Ouro Preto history. We visited many tourist points from churches to mines.
Ouro Preto is a very old city that was built in 18th century that has old streets, sidewalks and mansions. We visited Igreja Nossa Senhora do Pilar, Igreja São Francisco de Assis, Santa Efigênia, Praça Tiradentes, Casa dos Contos, two mines and crafting fairs.
During our visit, we stayed in 2 different hotels, one in an urban area and the other on a rural area, that was named Caraça.
In Caraça there wasn't any type of computer, wifi, phone or even signal to contact others outside the city, so we've learned how to live without technology, besides electricity. In there we went to a trail on the middle of the woods that ended up in a beautiful waterfall.

This trip was very different and unusual from others because we went to places that we never expected to go. Basically we all had a lot of fun during this trip with our friends and teachers!

OURO PRETO

Ouro Preto was really a good trip. We've learned so much about Brazilian history, including Independence and obviously about Minas Conspiracy, after all, we were in Minas Gerais, the scene of many important Brazilian historical events.

At the whole trip we visited many churches and museums and we learned so much about Brazilian Barroco Art and the history of Brazilian art, one of the richest and the best in the world and in history.

If you are thinking we've only learned about art and historical aspects you are totally wrong. On the second day, at night, we went to the Astronomy Observatory of Ouro Preto and we could see the sky greater, we saw many constellations like Cruzeiro and it was absolutely one of the most exciting moments of the trip. So, also we learned about Science.

Moreover, at the last two days of the trip we went to Caraça Sanctuary and there we learned more about nature and we really tried to spent these days without any technology... We couldn't do that! NO WAY!

In Caraça we could be closer to nature and animals. We did a little cooper and we passed in many different kinds of forest like tropical and caatinga, moist and dry places, flat and steep places. We lived different things, we will remember this for the rest of our lives.

Ouro Preto
When we travelled to Ouro Preto we learned a lot of things. We learned in “Mina da Passagem” that the temperature is low and it’s humid. The slaves who had to work in this mine had to be little to pass through in small places and short and strong to support the heavy work.
The streets in Ouro Preto are very inclined and clean. The houses of Ouro Preto are declared historical heritage of UNESCO and have a pattern: they are one beside the other, have little balconies and they’re very well conserved.
Praça Tiradentes is a very interesting place in Ouro Preto. Praça Tiradentes was built in 1896 in about 100 years after Tiradentes’s death and the objective is to show that Tiradentes was a hero.

Another interesting place is “Casa dos Contos”. This construction had a lot of functions thought the years. “Casa dos Contos” was a coin house and Senzala, the place where the slaves stayed. Today “Casa dos Contos” is a museum which it’s visited by a lot of people.

Ouro Preto’s churches are beautiful places. We visited three churches: “Nossa Senhora do Pilar”, “São Francisco de Assis” and “Santa Efigênia”. All of three have Barroco art and “Nossa Senhora do Pilar”, in particular, has 400Kg of gold making the church more beautiful. The “Santa Efigênia” has a particular feature created by a black entity.

When we visited “Santuário do Caraça” we had the best experience ever. We saw the “Lobo Guará” it was wonderful! Today “Santuário do Craça” is a museum but before it used to be a monastery. One night when one of the monastery students was studying he fell asleep and a book caught fire, burning down the library.
However, the trip to Ouro Preto was amazing! We have learned a lot of different things and we have had the chance to know our class mates better. It was an experience that we will never forget!
